Plasma The plasma component of whole blood is used in a variety of ways. • It may be immediately frozen (fresh frozen plasma) and then used to transfuse missing plasma proteins into patients with unusual deficiencies of clotting factors. • It can be processed into cryoprecipitate, a special product used to treat hemophilia. • It can be made into albumin to treat shock, gamma globulin to prevent hepatitis, and clotting factors.
